The Beginning
Welcome to my ramblings about my bike and the adventures and lessons that I am learning since investing in an e-bike. I started out thinking I wanted a classic café racer look but as I logged the hours on the internet web and talked to myself about what my goals really were, I knew my search was going to go in a different direction. Function over form. Also, buying from a Canadian company was a priority. Some were easier to eliminate than others, I didnt want an ugly ride, esthetics were a top three priority. Range rounded out my top three priority list. I was looking for a bike that would be my vehicle at the same time I want to get more fit, but as a woman of a certain age I also want to know that I will be able to get home even when I venture farther than maybe I should have.
Biktrix checked every box and though I had to wait a few months, it was worth it. I went with the Juggernaut Duo Classic which is a mid-drive motor as I am surrounded by hills. I know how to and enjoy gearing up and down depending on the terrain. She uses a cadence sensor which is not quite as natural feeling as a torque sensor but I am getting accustomed to the feel and I barely notice the jitteryness in the pedal assist modes. Before I get any further, her name is Bia. I did not name her until after we had gotten to know each other a bit but I would like to use her name going forward instead of just a pronoun.
I was super happy that she showed up on a Saturday; not gonna lie, I would have taken a holiday to put her together and start riding if she had shown up on a weekday.
J.P. did a fantastic build and pack and I had Bia up and running in under four hours. I had the battery charging as I put the bigger components together, the cables, brakes and smaller bits were all pre-assembled on the bike itself. Though I had to wait a coupleish months for my bike to arrive, I spent the time reading posts in Biktrix Facebook groups, watching videos from owners and Biktrix and I can attest that despite being more of a hands on learner, this did make it so much easier to manage the fundamental steps in caring for my e-bike out of the box. First was the bedding in of the brakes.
I made a quick run, less than 5 km to show off to my granddaughter, who in all fairness will always show a more than appropriate level of enthusiasm for new things, and to my co-worker's because this is at least almost as cool as his one wheel. I made numerous micro adjustments to the seat and handlebar trying to get it all as ergonomic as possible, but alas, bike accessories were going to be needed.
Stay tuned, my next post will cover a few upgrades and my thought process as I continue on this new journey.
Later Days!
